Train like an astronaut…

…with Early Years and Key Stage one!

We had another fantastic Science day today!  Our workshop in the morning with Jo saw us training like astronauts.  The children learnt that Tim Peake had to train for seven years before he went into space and today we did some work to gain a little taste of what astronauts experience.

We tested our balance:

We learnt that astronauts get taller in space because of the lack of gravity and we measured how tall we are now:

We also spent some time sitting quietly and learning to relax as it is very important for astronauts to be able to remain calm and to be able to calm themselves whenever they need to:

Back in our class in the afternoon we investigated whether a bigger meteorite would cause a bigger crater than a smaller one and we even got to hold some real meteorites from the Sahara!

It was also great to see how, in true Early Years style, the children carried on their learning in their play when they created their own craters and moon surface:

We also included some art work making space pictures using wax crayons and making our own spaceship and planet stick puppets to use as shadow puppets!  A very fun, very full day of learning.  A massive thank-you to all the parents and siblings who were able to join us today.
