South Molton Christmas Tree Festival 2018

Hi all

Just to say that we have a wonderful tree, decorated beautifully by all of the children, at South Molton Parish Church for their very special Christmas Tree Festival this weekend. Do go and see it – you will find it right at the front near the lecturn wearing gold and a beautiful bishop headpiece (thanks Mrs Jones 😁👌). We all enjoyed making the decorations and this will be our tree for the season.

Class 1 Bookstart today!

Class 1 – just a quick reminder that our Bookstart session is on this afternoon for parents of children in Class 1 at 2.30 in our classroom.  We’d love to see you there if you’re able to attend.  Last week we had a lot of fun singing action songs and rhymes and we were treated to an extra special story reading by Jacob’s dad.  I think it’s safe to say he had the whole class completely enthralled, many thanks again to him! 🙂

Sharing a love of books, stories and reading is one of the most precious gifts we can give our children.  We’d love to see you later if you can make it.

Wellington Maths 2018

Saturday morning saw our intrepid maths challengers travel to Wellington school for the 2018 Annual Maths Challenge. This is a major event with 45 schools taking part this year and a tough paper set by the Wellington Maths team. Our Bish Nym team worked together on the paper scoring a highly commendable 10. The Christmas Fayre was also excellent!

Thanks to the parents for supporting and well done to all.

Sports Update

GOLD! We have officially just been awarded the School Games Gold Award for our efforts across the past year. Huge congratulations to all of our sports competitors. This term has seen a netball tournament and a new club get underway:

We have also taken part in Indoor Athletics at South Molton:

..the hugely exciting Stephen Shield Cross Country at Great Torrington,

and our federation combined year 3/4 football team (Exmoor Link Rangers) have played their first league fixture playing a really hard fought game away at Witheridge losing 2-1 and a year 5/6 friendly against the same opposition, this time winning 2-1.

There is still more to come with a year 5/6 athletics event at South Molton later this week. What a busy term!

Class 1 Bookstart

We are very lucky to be working with Surestart to offer a free child and parent Bookstart programme. The BookStart programme provides an exciting opportunity for you and your child to share stories and rhymes together using a range of interactive resources. Each week you will receive free resources and tips to use and keep at home. The programme will last for 3 more weeks.

The next session will be held on Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 2.30pm in class 1. It will start at 2.30pm and will finish at hometime.

Nursery children who do not normally attend the Tuesday afternoon session are also invited to attend along with an adult from 2.30pm until hometime.

We look forward to seeing you all.

Caring for our bodies

The children have been learning how to care for, and how to look after our bodies. The children were visited by a nurse. The nurse spoke to the children about what she did at the hospital and how she cared for her poorly patients. The nurse also showed equipment that she used at the hospital, and modelled how to use the equipment too. The children loved exploring the equipment to find out how they worked and what they looked like.

The children then pretended to be nurses in the role play hospital and cared for their poorly patients (babies, children and animals).

Class 1 – Quick! Call the Fire Brigade!

Class 1 – this week we are learning about different occupations and talking about what we want to be when we grow up.  It provided us with a fantastic opportunity to follow the children’s interests.  The children really wanted to make a fire engine outside and they helped us to set one up.  The children were all really engaged with learning about how to drive a fire engine and how to put out fires!
