Class One Weekly Update; Summer 2: week 9 – 24th June
Thank you to all the parents who have brought in natural objects for the children to use as part of their play. This last week the children have had a fantastic time playing with the tyres; they have built dens, made a theatre by using the tyres with cushions to make chairs and transporting the tyres by rolling, carrying and working as a team. The children have also enjoyed using our shopping baskets and carrying things around the outdoor area. All of these activities help children to build their muscles and gross motor skills which are pre cursive to them developing and refining their fine motor skills needed for writing. The different activities also help children to develop their imagination and curiosity which will give them exciting things to write about. So all your donations are greatly appreciated – thank you. In addition if you have any milk bottle crates, wooden planks or pallets, large logs that the children could use as stools, old pots and pans or wooden spoons, china tea sets or any other natural object that they would be willing to donate we would be extremely grateful.
With the sunny weather forecast, please can we remind all parents to provide your child with sun cream and a sun hat. Please can you make sure that both are named. Please also ensure that your child has a water bottle in school.
During phonics and handwriting this week we will be introducing the letter /r/. If you have any items at home that you would be willing to share please bring in to go on our phonic table. Both nursery and reception children are getting much better at forming their letters pre cursively and their writing is becoming much neater.
In literacy the reception children are continuing to look at learning and writing some dinosaur facts. They are focussing on ensuring they remember to use finger spaces and they they try to form their letters correctly.
This week in Maths we will continue to look at doubling and halving and considering different ways of doing this. We will then be moving onto looking at different times of the day. We will be sequencing different activities in the day and they will be introduced to telling the time to the hour.
